[Nadir Biyikoglu, University Student]: I think people will get used to it with time and that will be a good thing, even if I still smoke. But the prohibition has been detrimental to the popular water-pipe cafes. They have seen a dramatic fall in customers attendance to up to seventy percent. [Tahir Berrakkarasu, BEYDER Association]: There are going to be tough times ahead.” Erdogan famously equated the struggle against smoking in the country with the one declared against terrorism. But a smoking fine of only 45 US dollars may not be enough deterrent compared to 700 US dollars in neighboring Greece. [Elif Arda, Aviation Worker]: “If there is a punishment people will obey this.” In 17th-Century Istanbul, Sultan Murad IV punished those who defied a public smoking ban with execution, a measure not likely to be adopted by Erdogan.

@dier505 The results are so far about 60 days lesser of lifespan so far within US.I support this ban only if any company by the law have two buildings one for smokers and another one for nonsmokers.

I agree with that indeed, but the law was made already. And whe it comes down to it, i consider protecting peoples health to be more important than protecting business owners profit. If there was ever a vote to allow owners to decide, i’d surely vote for. But as far as the smoking ban goes, i think its a very positive thing. you may lose smokers at your business, but no one mentions the increase in non smoker patrons that would of inititially never of visited due to it being a smoking area.

pretty much, but its more that they are banning smoking in public places like bars, restaurants etc which happens to include smoking bars. I have to say ever since the law was put in place here in Ireland, its been much more pleasant to go out. Its only after you go out to a smoke free place for a night, that makes you realise how nasty it is breathing in smoke all night. Its a good law, means non smokers dont have to suffer the discomfort and health effects from being around 2nd hand smoke…
