Addiction is a vice that was earlier only related to the male species. However with the change of time women are moving forward and are going hand in hand with men. So much so that women are now taking to the fateful habit of smoking. Not just smoking, women are nowadays taking to most of the addictions- be it smoking, drinking or drugs.

It has been proved in the studies that addictions prove to be more harmful to women than to men. Also it is harder for women to give up addictions in comparison to men. Women are also at a greater risk because they are to be the future mothers.

Having said that, women are increasingly getting addicted to the various forms of addictions does not mean that they were free from its grip in the earlier days. Right from time immemorial women have been victims of addictions. In various chronicles it has been found that women who were deserted by their partners or husbands took solace in addictions. Not only the poor and the depraved but even women belonging to royalty took to addictions. However, the number of such women was less early in comparison with today.

Today for many, a glass of wine or a cigar in hand is not an escape but a kind of status symbol.

Still there is no denying the fact that sorrow and distress prove to be a major catalyst for a woman to fall into smoking and other like wise addictions. Financial constrains, absence of liberty, depravation etc are some other reasons that push a women to take shelter in the bosom of addictions. Like the male breed she was not meant to be as expressive and articulate and was always taught to drink the wine of pain and sorrow without making a noise. Apart from this factor, finance also makes women take recourse to addictions. For example in the disturbed country of Afghanistan women are increasingly falling prey to addictions because they have no money to buy food and other necessities and so they prefer to remain in an addictive trance. Addictions like heroin and opium are known to kill the appetite, thus they save themselves from procuring food. Not only women, but even children as small as 9 and 10 years are pushed into addictions by their mothers so that they would remain full and would not cry for food. Apart from these children, infants are also made to take drugs and fags so that their hunger is satiated.

In the earlier days and in the backward areas it can be imagined when women were gripped in the addictions and there was nobody to rescue them. But today when women in the educated and affluent societies fall prey to addictions, it’s really a pity. And most of them find it difficult to give up even when they know that are pregnant. As a consequence they harm the unborn baby too.

Though it sounds clichéd but life is precious and not worth giving up to the smoke. So in order to help these ladies and also their men there are quit smoking pills that are available today.
