Smoking cigarettes accounts for between 40% and 60% of the difference in men and women’s mortality right across Europe, new research reveals. Alcohol accounts for around 20% of the gender gap. The findings, published in the journal Tobacco Control, highlight the need for public health measures to tackle these harmful behaviors. Women have outlived men in some European countries since the middle of the 18th century, and since the late 1990s, there has been evidence that women in every country in the world can expect to live longer than their male compatriots.

The reasons for this difference have been hotly debated; some attribute the gender gap to biology, while others point to men’s (relative) unwillingness to seek out medical care when they need it. One area which has been largely neglected is the influence of health behaviors on the gender gap in death rates. In this study, scientists in the UK used World Health Organization (WHO) data on death rates in 30 European countries from the year 2005. They studied differences between the genders in deaths from all causes as well as deaths from smoking-related conditions and alcohol-related deaths.

The results revealed that although the death rates from all causes were higher for men than for women in all countries studied, the scale of the gender gap varied widely, from 188 (per 100,000 of the population per year) ‘excess’ deaths among men in Iceland to 942 in Ukraine. Generally speaking, the gender gap was higher in Eastern Europe; all countries with a gender gap over 400 per 100,000 were in this region.

The lowest gender gaps were found in Cyprus, Greece, Iceland, Sweden and the UK, which all recorded gaps of under 230 per 100,000. Smoking accounted for between 38% and 60% of the gender gap in all countries, with the exception of Malta, where smoking was behind 74% of the excess deaths. According to the researchers, variations in the proportion of excess deaths due to smoking tobacco can be attributed to gender differences in the uptake of smoking in different countries in earlier decades. Meanwhile alcohol-related deaths accounted for between 20% and 30% of the gender gap in Eastern Europe and between 10% and 20% elsewhere. However, in all 30 countries studied, the contribution of smoking to the gender gap in all-cause mortality was greater than that of alcohol.

The scientists point out that it should not come as a surprise that smoking and drinking are such significant drivers of the gender gap in life expectancy, as these behaviors ‘have long been a powerful way of portraying gendered identities’. Furthermore, the researchers note, ‘it has been suggested that cultural portrayals of drinking keep shifting to maintain a gendered distinction in drinking behaviors, so that as men and women both modify their drinking behaviors, considerable effort is devoted to constructing men’s drinking in different ways to women’s drinking.’

The fact that young smokers continue to take up smoking and engage in harmful patterns of alcohol consumption suggests that public health measures are urgently needed to tackle these behaviors. The fact that these behaviors appear to be linked to gender identities means that dealing with them will not be easy. ‘These behaviors are culturally bound and these cultural constructions of behaviors are partially shaped by and exploited by the alcohol and tobacco industries,’ the researchers warn. Looking to the future, the team predicts that the gender gap due to smoking will dwindle in the coming decades. They concluded that it may still be several decades before profound changes in gender differences in smoking in some of these countries are reflected in a smaller contribution of smoking-related deaths to a reduced gender gap in mortality.

America is a country of inventors and problem solvers. For every problem in America, there has been at least one solution offered by an innovative thinker. When states started banning smoking in restaurants, more and more people were forced to stand outside, sometimes in rainy or snowy conditions to smoke. Workplaces followed the trend and required workers to take their smoke breaks in designated smoking areas. When states started passing laws that made it against the law to smoke inside of public bars, American minds worked together to solve the problem- the solution, a disposable electronic cigarette. You’re trying to get pregnant. You want a beautiful baby. And you want to experience the joy of motherhood. After being unsuccessful at getting pregnant, you might start to wonder what’s wrong with you and your body. You might wonder, “why am I not getting pregnant”.

So, what I’m going to do is share with you some possible reasons why you’re not getting pregnant. And I’ll share with you a few things you can start doing so that you’ll be able to get pregnant within the next two months.

The reasons why you’re not getting pregnant are:

1. The first thing that can be stopping you from having a baby is smoking and drinking. If you’re smoking or drinking alcohol, you need to stop. At least until you get pregnant and have your baby. Smoking and drinking alcohol dramatically reduces your chances of getting pregnant.

2. Another reason why you’re not getting pregnant could be your nutrition. If you’re not eating the right foods, you will reduce your chance of being able to get pregnant.

3. The third reason could be your sexual partner. If he has low sperm count, it could be the cause of you not being able to become pregnant. But don’t worry, there are some things he can do to increase his sperm count.

Now, a few things you can do right now that will help you get pregnant is to know your body. You need to know when you’re ovulating. This is the best time for you to get pregnant. Also, when you have sexual intercourse during ovulation, make sure you do it in the missionary position.

Giving up anything that you are addicted to is hard. Some people find it harder than others due to an addictive personality and you will find these are the people that may stop smoking cigarettes but will then start smoking marijuana or eating sweets or gambling.
These types of people find comfort in the habits associated with addiction. However, this doesn’t apply to everyone. Some people get into smoking due to peer pressure and before they know it they are addicted. So, what makes cigarettes so addictive and why is it so hard to stop smoking?

We all know, through advertising, that it’s the nicotine in cigarettes that makes them so addictive. Nicotine is a stimulant that releases beta-endorphins, the natural chemical in our brains that makes us feel good. Smokers will reach for a cigarette when they are stressed as it will make them feel calm, in control but alert at the same time. It is easy to get used to this feeling and need it more and more but as the body can’t store nicotine, more cigarettes are needed to keep producing the same effect.

However, over time our brains get used to the artificial boost from cigarettes and stops producing its own endorphins. This means that when a smoker tries to stop smoking, they feel even worse before as the cigarettes are now needed simply to feel normal.
There are many everyday products that people claim to become addicted to such as chocolate and coffee but why are these easier to give up than cigarettes? The nicotine in cigarettes produces a more marked effect at a much greater speed than those other products. Nicotine passes into the brain within ten seconds of that first puff so the smoker reaches for an ‘instant fix’ to their feelings.

But it’s not just the nicotine that affects our bodies. There are up to 600 additives and flavourings in every single cigarette. These chemicals multiply once the cigarette is lit and inhaled, thus releasing up to 4,000 chemicals that the smoker and those around them will be inhaling.

Of course, it would be impossible to list all the chemicals that you are inhaling in an article as short as this but if you are looking for a reason to stop smoking, check a few of them out here: Acetone – you know that stuff used to remove nail polish and ammonia (toilet cleaner), both poisons that will be inhaled in small doses with every cigarette you smoke.

Tar builds up in the lungs at a rate of 1.5 pounds per year for those who smoke twenty a day. Benzene is a solvent used in fuel and is known to be a carcinogenic. The chemical used in making batteries – Cadmium, is known to cause kidney damage and increase the risk of lung cancer.

Carbon monoxide, the same poison spewed out by car exhausts, prevents the blood carrying oxygen around the body so every cigarette will leave you with a reduced ability to exercise. Hydrogen cyanide has the same effect.

These are just a few of the chemicals that are in your cigarettes. They will all induce cholesterol build up and with the reduced capacity to get oxygen round the system, this will lead to heart disease, strokes and cancers.

If these fact that you are slowly poisoning yourself and your family isn’t enough to encourage you to stop smoking, think about the fact that the cigarette manufacturers know exactly what they are doing by getting you addicted. This is a multi million pound business that thrives on other peoples addictions.

“Do you have any plan of quitting cigarette smoking?” I asked my friend.

“Plan? I’ll stop and that’s it!” she replied.

“Like the last time huh?” I don’t intend to be sarcastic but it’s been always that way!

Honestly that’s how my friend Sally is, she always make on the spot decision which makes her a lively person but when it comes to smoking, it was the 3rd attempt she made, and this time I asked her if she have any methods on how to quit smoking before it becomes another failing plan and makes smokers cough worst.

Expectedly, she doesn’t have any methods or goal. She blamed her two last attempts to her anxiety and stress and did not take responsibility of her actions. According to her, at this point she is willing to make a plan and stop her unhealthy habit for good.

What is your preparation method to quit?

If you do not have any, then you can be like Sally who failed twice just because of no proper planning and not even invested for the success of her plan to stop smoking for good. It is your health and your family’s health that is in line at this issue!

Ways on how to stop smoking do not have to be a novel; there are just some basic things to remember that may help. Methods of how to quit smoking for good health are broken down into three sections below:

Goals – jot down realistic goals with exact time frame. It can be the exact date on when you will start your quitting goal or maybe how sticks you will subtract everyday. Any will do as long as it is documented and is with you all the time.

How to avoid longings – Many have a hard time to avoid their longings to cigarettes caused by nicotine addiction that developed after long years of smoking. It is a must to create an action plan once it strikes you, it requires of you to divert yourself from something affirmative. Cleaning your home or your office space, or maybe think of a tennis game (something repetitive is soothing), or anything except smoking.

Reasons – An important principle to work out is to change your attitude from that of a smoker to a non – smoker. In order to make this possible you will need a strong reason why quitting cigarette is best for you. It will make things a little easier if you list down the benefits you will get from quitting, extra money, good health, better family relationship, all at any kind as long as it motivates you!

Sally was able to pull it through with these tips at hand, it wasn’t easy though. What helped her most is the decision to submit herself to hypnosis course which worked for her since she believed in the power of it.

I got this from www.thevaporexperience.com actually I saw the movie The Tourist and then thought i got to try one of these things so i got one from that site and here i am trying it on camera .
