Poisonous Chemicals In Tobacco Smoke

It is the chemicals added to cigarettes that are responsible for the most damage to smokers health. There are over 4,000 chemicals in cigarettes and over 50 of them are known to be carcinogens (causing cancer) and many more have poisonous effects.

Cigarettes are one of the few products available to purchase which can cause serious health effects, or death if used in the intended way. There are ongoing lawsuits against tobacco industries to take responsibility for harm done to people who smoked, and also to stop selling products known to kill people. Many of the poisonous chemicals are only added as byproducts and are not necessary.

Below are some of the harmful agents and alternative uses, or harmful side effects:

Formaldehyde (Embalming liquid) Colorless poisonous fluid, used to preserve dead bodies. A known agent associated with cancer and skin, respiratory and gastrointestinal problems.

Acetone (Nail polish remover) Strong smelling chemical used as a solvent, in nail polish remover. Found in cigarette smoke.

Ammonia (Toilet cleaner) Found in cleaning fluids. Used to free nicotine from tobacco changing it into a gas. Also used in cigarettes.

Benzene (Petrolium additive) Colourless compound from coal and petrol, used as a solvent in manufacturing. It is a known agent associated with Leukaemia and other cancers. Found in cigarette smoke.

Carbon Monoxide (CO- car exhaust fumes) Colourless, odourless and poisonous. In large amounts can cause rapid death. This is the main gas formed when smoking.

Tar Particles of tar are drawn into the lungs when inhaling smoke and only 70% are exhaled out of the lungs. This means the remaining 30% settles in the lungs causing irritation and damage to the lung tissues.

Nicotine (Insecticide/ addictive drug) One of the most addictive substances known to man. It is used as an insecticide and is a fast acting poison.

Others

Arsenic – Used as rat poison, also used in cigarettes.

Hydrogen Cyanide – Extremely poisonous chemical used as a gas chamber poison in WWII- found in cigarette smoke.

These are just a few of the more common poisons in chemicals. However, in each cigarette is a cocktail of irritating, harmful substances causing damage to the lung tissues with each inhalation. Luckily, the effects can be stopped immediately by stopping smoking, many of the chemicals will have left the bloodstream within 72 hours and health new cells will help to eliminate carcinogenic substances from the lung cells. Another good reason to quit today!

How To Be Sure You Are Getting A Proper Fish Oil Dosage–Every Day

Knowing the correct fish oil dosage you should be getting is important–not
because of any danger of an overdose, but rather by making sure you are getting
enough to be effective. Of course the recommended way to do that is by eating
at least two fish meals per week, and by avoiding fast food deep fried fish or
frozen convenience fish as they tend to have much lower levels of omega 3 fatty
acids and much higher levels of unwanted fats.

I have some friends and family that smoke and I wanted to find out what chemicals they were putting in their bodies with each cigarette, each day.  Not to mention all the other effects of smoking.  So, I decided to do a little research.  I was dumbfounded.  The general consensus is about 599 additives.

The big problem is that these additives were not tested by burning them.  The burning of most of these additives changes the chemical compounds.  It produces over 4,000 chemical compounds, of which many are toxic and/or carcinogenic.  Not to mention the smoke you inhale, which contains carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen cyanide, and ammonia.  43 known carcinogens are in the smoke you breathe and share with others.

Chemicals found in cigarette smoke

Benzene – A petrol additive.  A colorless hydrocarbon obtained from coal and petroleum, used as a solvent in fuel and in chemical manufacture. ( Also found in cigarette smoke).  It is a carcinogen and is associated with leukemia.

Formaldehyde – embalming fluid.  A colorless liquid, highly poisonous, used to preserve dead bodies. (Also found in cigarette smoke.  Known to cause cancer, respiratory, skin and gastrointestinal problems.

Ammonia – toilet cleaner.  Found in dry cleaning fluids.  It is used as a flavoring frees nicotine from tobacco turning it into a gas.  (Also found in cigarette smoke).

Acetone – Nail polish remover.  Fragrant volatile liquid ketone, used as a solvent.  (Also found in cigarette smoke).

Tar – Particulate matter drawn into the lungs when you inhale on a lit cigarette.  Once inhaled, smoke condenses and about 70% of the tar in the smoke is deposited in the smoker’s lungs.

Nicotine – Insecticide, an addictive drug.  One of the most addictive substances known to man, a powerful and fast acting medical and non-medical poison.  This is the chemical which causes addiction.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) – car exhaust fumes.  An odorless, tasteless, and poisonous gas, rapidly fatal in large amounts.  It is the same gas that comes out of the car exhausts and is the main gas in cigarette smoke, formed when the cigarette is lit.

Arsenic – rat poison. (Also found in cigarette smoke).

Hydrogen Cyanide – Gas chamber poison.  (Also found in cigarette smoke)

Now, you can understand why secondhand smoke is so dangerous.  You are poisoning yourself by choice, but others around you; family, children, the elderly, and friends don’t have a choice.

Take the time to read the list below.  This is what one cigarette puts into your body every time you take a puff.  Think about it!  Quit!!
