Smoking pot can increase your risk of getting schizophrenia. The risk becomes higher when the drug is used by people under the age of 21.
While those with a biological predisposition towards schizophrenia (e.g. a family history of the disease) are at the highest risk, heavy cannabis users during the teen years when the brain is developing are particularly vulnerable. Experts said between 8 percent and 13 percent of all schizophrenia cases have been linked to marijuana use during these formative years.
Schizophrenia is a chronic, severe and disabling brain disorder than affects over 50 million people worldwide. Schizophrenics suffer from hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, and unusual mannerisms. They may hear voices that no one else hears or see people or objects that aren’t there. Patients may believe that they are being persecuted, harassed or spied upon. These symptoms usually begin in men in their late teens and early 20s and in women in their mid-20s to early 30s.
Schizophrenia is often described in terms of positive (or productive) and negative (or deficit) symptoms. Positive symptoms include delusions, hallucinations as well as thought disorders typically regarded as manifestations of psychosis. Negative symptoms are so-named because they are considered to be the loss or absence of normal traits or abilities.
Considering the popularity of marijuana both here and abroad, experts said the number of schizophrenics could dramatically increase over the next few years. At present, marijuana is the most widely consumed illicit drug used by about 146 million or 3.7 percent of the world’s population aged 15 to 64 years old, according to the World Drug Report prepared by the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC). In the United States alone, about 15 million Americans use marijuana.
The link between schizophrenia and marijuana has been established in over 30 different scientific studies made over the past 20 years. These were mostly done in the United Kingdom, Australia and Sweden. The growing body of evidence is also due to the increased potency of marijuana. The British Lung Association said street marijuana is 15 times more powerful today than the ones sold three decades ago.
“Researchers in New Zealand found that those who used cannabis by the age of 15 were more than three times (300 percent) more likely to develop illnesses such as schizophrenia. Other research has backed this up, showing that cannabis use increases the risk of psychosis by up to 700 percent for heavy users, and that the risk increases in proportion to the amount of cannabis used (smoked or consumed),“ according to Schizophreia.Com, a non-profit web community that provides information, support, and education to people with schizophrenia.
Aside from marijuana use, schizophrenia is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The disease tends to run in families and may be triggered by exposure to viruses or malnutrition in the womb, problems during birth, and stressful environments. Faulty brain chemistry caused by imbalances in the brain chemicals dopamine and glutamate is another possible cause.
If you have any of the above symptoms, seek medical help. To enhance your memory and support healthy brain function, take Neurovar. For more information on this powerful supplement, go to http://www.neurovar.com/.

In my previous articles I discuss the top supplements for bipolar. After extensive research into the pharmacology of how bipolar meds work, I looked for matching supplements that had the same or similar chemical reactions in the body. Since many pharmaceuticals are based on chemical formulations of naturally occurring substances I decided that there must be supplements with the benefits and not as many side-effects. This is the fourth best supplement recommended.

There is a very high amount of awareness about the health dangers due to smoking as well as second hand smoke. It’s reasonable that the dangers of smoking during pregnancy will affect the unborn baby as well. Yes, there have been studies and research performed on the subject. These studies have found correlations between smoking and the effects on the babies. Smoking while pregnant has been proven to be the cause of many medical problems. The dangers still existed for the baby if the mother didn’t smoke but was exposed to second hand smoke. The following are examples of the serious consequences of smoking while pregnant.
Talk to your prenatal doctor or your family doctor to get help quitting if you smoke and are pregnant. You can find various methods and products designed to help you quit smoking. You need to know that some of these quitting aids contain nicotine. Nicotine patches send nicotine into your bloodstream which can still be absorbed by your baby. This is a better option than inhaling the hundreds of chemicals found in cigarettes but still poses a threat to your baby’s health. It’s still best to discuss the best approach for you to use with your doctor. We mentioned earlier that when a mother smokes while pregnant her child can have compromised lung functions. By smoking while pregnant, you place your child at a greater risk for lung issues such as asthma and a greater tendency for pneumonia. It is also more common for these children to develop issues such as bronchitis. Also consider that these problems also involve the child’s immune system, as well. These creates a greater susceptibility to infections.
While a significant percentage of low birth weight newborns is blamed on the mother smoking while pregnant, there are quite a few additional risks. You may not realize that a good number of mental retardation, learning disabilities and even cerebral palsy have been linked to preterm smoking. Sudden infant death is the biggest risk of smoking while pregnant.
If you quit smoking, you eliminate the common problems associated with smoking during pregnancy. It really is pretty cut and dry, black and white. Keep researching and learning about what could happen to your child if you need more motivation to quit. These consequences includes still births and a higher risk of SIDS. Smoking during pregnancy is extremely harmful for your baby and for you, as anyone can see.

The government has received a boost after new figures showed that the smoking ban did not lead to more children being exposed to smoke in the home.
Critics of the ban said that after smoking was banned in public places like pubs and clubs, it would lead more people to drink at home, where they could light up. When it was originally introduced in 2007, pro-smoking groups like Forest said that more children could be exposed to second-hand smoke.
However a study at Cardiff University of 3,500 primary-school age children found that since 2007 there had hardly been any change in the amount of second-hand smoke they were exposed to.
The researchers took saliva swabs from the children, aged between 10 and 11, the year before the ban came in. They then did the same a year after the ban was introduced. The swabs were then tested for exposure to second-hand smoke. The children were also asked to fill in questionnaires.
In the report on the results, published in the BMC public health journal, it was concluded that after the introduction of the ban there was no significant increase in how much second-hand smoke the children were introduced to.
While the results were seen as a vindication of the smoking ban, it has been acknowledged that it is disappointing that the levels of exposure remained the same, rather than dropping. It has been hoped that the ban would lead to greater numbers of people trying smoking cessation treatments as the ban gave them extra impetus to quit.
The NHS has been strongly promoting the message that quitters are more likely to succeed if they accept help, such as nicotine replacement therapy or drugs like Champix. They have launched aggressive marketing campaigns to encourage quitting – such as the one featuring children begging their parents to give up – and have sought to make smoking cessation treatments such as Champix more widely available.
These tactics, combined with the smoking ban and the new photos of potential diseases on smoking packets, have resulting in a drop in the number of smokers of 22% from 2007 to 2008. The Cardiff study also supports findings in September which showed that a reduction in second-hand smoke in public places has resulting in a drop of 10% in the number of heart attacks in the UK.
The news comes at a time when the government has been facing fierce criticism of the ban from pub and bar owners, who say that it has resulted in a significant loss of revenue, forcing many establishments to close.

Smoking Ban Didn’t Lead to Rise

WARNING: We would like to add that this has been done early in the morning and within a day’s notice..so we look horrible lol..ENJOY 😀
