The structure of the skin is literally affected by smoking and thousands of toxins are delivered into the body like nicotine, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde(cadavers are preserved with this!), mercury, lead and tar. Circulation is impaired as well as oxygen being delivered to skin tissue because smoking causes the skin’s blood vessels to constrict. It lowers the skins ability to form collagen and elastin thickens and breaks apart. Smoking is clearly one of the very worst causes of aging.
The production of estrogen in women has been shown to be reduced by smoking and on top of that, the squinting and puckering while inhaling can increase wrinkling around the eyes and lips. A 1996 study at the University of Utah Department of Dermatology, measured the wrinkles in the faces of nonsmokers and smokers, establishing statistically and clinically that smokers’ faces show more wrinkling at an earlier age than those of non-smokers.(1)
Healing of the skin is also affected by smoking; it delays wound healing and smokers are two to three times as likely to develop psoriasis as nonsmokers. Most alarmingly, research has shown a link between cigarette smoking and squamous cell cancer of the lips, as well as an increased death rate from melanoma.(2) This is very scary as one of the causes of aging to watch out for.
Scientists at the Twin Research Unit at St. Thomas’s Hospital in London looked at twenty-five pairs of identical twins where one was a lifelong smoker and the other had never smoked. Not only were the smokers more wrinkled but also the skin on the inside of their arms was up to 40% thinner than that of their nonsmoking siblings.(3)
Like sun exposure, smoking is just plain nonnegotiable and please see your doctor if you are having trouble with quitting.
Alcohol is not quite as severe as one of the causes of aging as long as moderation is the key. Large amounts of alcohol can definitely damage your skin’s appearance. Alcohol dehydrates your skin and can interrupt your sleep cycle; our Vitamin A supply in our bodies is destroyed as well. I’m sure you’ve noticed after having too many drinks in the evening, the next morning your skin looks sallow, puffy and dried out….as well as having a killer headache!
Limit your consumption of alcohol to one drink a day to keep your skin unaffected. When looking to quit smoking for good, there is one important factor which is often overlooked and the reason why so many people fail to quit smoking year after year. This is so critical, that quitting smoking is literally impossible unless you nail this one factor down. The most frequently overlooked aspect in quitting smoking is getting your mental game straight.
If you seriously want to quit smoking for good, you need to come to the battlegrounds with the right mindset, a mindset for success, if you do not, you will subconsciously self-sabotage your efforts. Without further ado, here are the 3 quit smoking tips:

Quit Smoking For Good Key No.1 â You Must Believe it is Possible for You.
Often times people engage in negative self talk and have negative chatter going on in their heads along the lines of âItâs too hard to quitâ, âI donât have the willpower!â, âIâve tried âXâ times and it just doesnât work for meâ etc, etc. The truth is the more you tell yourself lines such as this, the more you will program your mind into believing it will fail. Your mind is a computer and it WILL be programmed. Catch ALL your negative programming as it happens and shut it off. Replace it with positive thoughts such as âQuitting smoking is easier and easier with each new day!â, âI feel healthier and stronger each dayâ, âMy mental strength increases with each passing day, it becomes easier and easier for me to live a smoke-free lifeâ. Take an inventory of your self-talk on a DAILY basis, become critically aware of it, it is THAT important.

Quit Smoking For Good Key No.2 â Visualize Success.
It is equally important to not only believe quitting smoking for good is possible, but for you to see it in your minds eye as having actually HAPPENED. Take a moment to close your eyes, and visualize yourself in the present moment, living a smoke free lifestyle. Notice how much healthier you appear, your eyes are clear and bright, you walk with a bounce in your step, youâre enjoying life, able to breathe the surrounding air freely and fully into your lungs, notice the subtle aromas in the surrounding environment you otherwise wouldnât. See how much more positive and happy you are in your interactions with others, notice how others perceive you differently, in a more positive light as they notice your sense of pride and accomplishment emanating from within you.
Take the time to really see in your minds eye, you, living a smoke free life. Allow yourself to feel all the associated positive emotions, keep your eyes closed and perform this long enough to the point that youâve forgotten youâre visualizing it and youâre done for the day! Now repeat this DAILY! It will feed into your subconscious and in a weeks time you will feel MUCH more positive about your ability to quit smoking.

It is vitally important that at each and every instance of a setback to your progress towards a smoke free life, that you do not allow it to throw you completely off target. If you have a lapse and veer off your course, smoking a cigarette you didnât plan for, do not dwell on it, and more importantly do not let it de-motivate you to the point of giving up completely! If you believe you have tried everything and you just canât seem to stick to a plan, ask yourself this âWhat were the last 100 things I tried to quit smoking for good?â. Thatâs right, 100, list them off. Canât think of 100? Ok then, 50â¦20? Do you see what Iâm getting at? It took Thomas Edison over 1000 tries to develop the light bulb, what would have happened if he stopped at his 999th try? Failure. Be relentless, it is possible, no matter WHO you are, regardless of whether you realize it now or not, I am telling you it is absolutely 100% within your ability to quit smoking for good right now! Believe it and never give up no many how many times you fall down, get right back up at it. Develop it and take pride in this winning mentality!

What I have just shared with you is so critical you must not just read over this and say to yourself âYa, ya, I know all about thatâ. It is one thing to know about it, it is another thing to register it on an emotional level and really FEEL it inside of you. To not only know it intellectually, but to live it emotionally. These steps are not for you to know, they are for you to take in, breathe in, to feel, and most importantly, implement in your life. Once you have the mental game down and develop a deep and true understanding for each of these points, you are well on your way to a new, healthier you.
