Pregnancy is such a wonderful time in a woman’s life. The thought of their little bundle of joy coming into the world is enough to fill and expectant mother’s heart with joy. But is can be a scary time too. Will her baby be born healthy? Will there be any complications. It is only natural for a woman to worry about the safety of her baby, there are many things that can go wrong.
If you smoke during pregnancy then your concerns are real, much more so than for a non-smoking woman. The effects of smoking pregnant woman subject their babies to can range from harmful to even fatal. Smoking during pregnancy greatly increases chances of your baby having difficulties during pregnancy and delivery. The main concerns are low birth weight and premature delivery. Smoking during pregnancy can vastly increase the chances of either of these conditions occurring.
To be able to prevent if not totally eliminate the possibility of these effects happening, it is critical that a mother becomes as careful as possible about her health and well being. She should start thinking long term and not only for herself but also for the little life that is within her. To protect the health of her unborn baby, smoking must be totally stopped.
Now there are many options for quitting smoking but a pregnant woman needs to be careful to choose a method that is safe for her baby. She has to be sure to choose a smoking cessation method that is all natural. A pregnant woman cannot even consider using medications to quit smoking as these can pose serious harm to her baby.
And she definitely should not try to go it alone. Now is the time that it is critical to quit smoking and trying to quit “cold turkey” only offers a less than a 10 percent chance of successfully quitting smoking. You need to get some help from an effective smoking cessation program that works fast.
A very effective method that pregnant women can choose to help them quit smoking is Neuro Linguistic Programming, or NLP. This method has been used for many years by smoking cessation experts to help their clients break their smoking habits. It has proven to be extremely successful and is the perfect method for pregnant women to quit smoking.
Why is this? NLP is all natural. It is a powerful form of hypnotherapy that works by helping to remove the cravings to smoke from the subconscious mind. Once these cravings are removed it is very easy to give up cigarettes. NLP is a very sound option to help expectant mothers protect their unborn babies from the effects of smoking. Pregnant women who are looking for a safe method to quit smoking should look further into NLP as their smoking cessation method.

Pregnant and Still Smoking? Here is Exactly why and How to Quit Smoking While Pregnant
The baby in your womb gets everything from you. Oxygen and nutrition arrive from the umbilical cord and placenta. And if you smoke cigarettes you happen to be additionally exposing the fetus to the chemicals that cigarettes have. When you smoke, some of the o2 in your bloodstream is replaced by another gas – carbon monoxide. I have some friends and family that smoke and I wanted to find out what chemicals they were putting in their bodies with each cigarette, each day. Not to mention all the other effects of smoking. So, I decided to do a little research. I was dumbfounded. The general consensus is about 599 additives.Â
The big problem is that these additives were not tested by burning them. The burning of most of these additives changes the chemical compounds. It produces over 4,000 chemical compounds, of which many are toxic and/or carcinogenic. Not to mention the smoke you inhale, which contains carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen cyanide, and ammonia. 43 known carcinogens are in the smoke you breathe and share with others.
Chemicals found in cigarette smoke
Benzene â A petrol additive. A colorless hydrocarbon obtained from coal and petroleum, used as a solvent in fuel and in chemical manufacture. ( Also found in cigarette smoke). It is a carcinogen and is associated with leukemia.
Formaldehyde â embalming fluid. A colorless liquid, highly poisonous, used to preserve dead bodies. (Also found in cigarette smoke. Known to cause cancer, respiratory, skin and gastrointestinal problems.
Ammonia â toilet cleaner. Found in dry cleaning fluids. It is used as a flavoring frees nicotine from tobacco turning it into a gas. (Also found in cigarette smoke).
Acetone â Nail polish remover. Fragrant volatile liquid ketone, used as a solvent. (Also found in cigarette smoke).
Tar â Particulate matter drawn into the lungs when you inhale on a lit cigarette. Once inhaled, smoke condenses and about 70% of the tar in the smoke is deposited in the smokerâs lungs.
Nicotine â Insecticide, an addictive drug. One of the most addictive substances known to man, a powerful and fast acting medical and non-medical poison. This is the chemical which causes addiction.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) â car exhaust fumes. An odorless, tasteless, and poisonous gas, rapidly fatal in large amounts. It is the same gas that comes out of the car exhausts and is the main gas in cigarette smoke, formed when the cigarette is lit.Â
Arsenic â rat poison. (Also found in cigarette smoke).
Hydrogen Cyanide â Gas chamber poison. (Also found in cigarette smoke)
Now, you can understand why secondhand smoke is so dangerous. You are poisoning yourself by choice, but others around you; family, children, the elderly, and friends donât have a choice.
Take the time to read the list below. This is what one cigarette puts into your body every time you take a puff. Think about it! Quit!!

It is a blessing to have a healthy and long life. Unless you happen to inherit a family having a history of hereditary diseases, you can enjoy a happier life for a longer period by taking adequate care of what you eat and how you lead your life.
Strictly, from the health point of view, one can live longer with good health by maintaining good metabolism. What does metabolism mean?
Metabolism is nothing but a series of chemical actions or a process in which the food we eat on a regular basis gets converted into energy and is used for effective functioning of the body. This metabolism will help in keeping the muscles and fat content in the body at optimum levels and keep the body energetic.
For maintaining normal health, it is essential that energy flows to the body in a constant manner without any spikes or disruption. In other words, the metabolism level in the body is stable. Activities such as smoking and drinking alcohol, which might provide temporary satisfaction and happiness to a person consuming them, have been proved detrimental to his own health over a period. The ill effects of smoking and drinking alcohol have been well documented and awareness created among the people. We shall discuss more about the negative effects of smoking and drinking alcohol on metabolism in the body.
When a person lights a cigarette and smokes, his central nervous system gets stimulated because of the nicotine content present in that cigarette. The stimulation triggers more energy expenditure and results in spike in energy.
When you feel hungry and nothing eatable is around, you tend to light up a cigarette, if you are a smoker. This kills the feeling of hunger and postpones food consumption, and disrupts the metabolic cycle.
Another habit one needs to stay away from in order to have a healthy life is reducing or avoiding consumption of alcohol in any form. It has been discovered that drinking alcohol in large quantities has a negative impact in body metabolism.
The process of converting food in to various forms of energy is what we refer to metabolism. The energy derived from the fat content we eat is what we call as fat metabolism. The fat content and the energy from it have an important role to play in the body’s health. When you consume alcohol, the capability of converting fat energy gets reduced and fat metabolism gets affected. In other words, more fat will not be metabolized and fat content in the body will increase, leading to obesity and overweight over a period.
Recent research has found that alcohol, while passing through the liver in the body, helps in the formation of acetate in the body. The body, instead of burning fats to release energy, ends up burning this acetate. Thus, the fat content in the body stays unburned and leads to obesity or putting on more weight.
Another negative impact of alcohol consumption is that essential minerals such as magnesium and calcium get excreted from the body through the form or urination, depriving the body of the needs of these essential minerals.

Smoking marijuana is common among thousands of people all around the world. Although it is not considered a dangerous drug it does have a negative effect on your body. There is good news, when you actually stop smoking weed your body begins to repair itself. For those looking to stop smoking weed here are a few more reason to help your decision that much easier.
Smoking marijuana habitually does effect your body and organs. It does the following
Effects your respiratory system
Stains your skin
Disrupts your social life
Damages your gums
Hormonal imbalance
It is more common for smokers to get sick more often than non smokers. Those who smoke daily are more likely to suffer from illnesses more often and usually take more time to recover. Smoking weed can damage your respiratory system but once you quit smoking weed your lungs begin to repair themselves almost immediately. The people I have spoken to noticed their lungs improve greatly within a couple of weeks of quiting. Smoking weed also damages your gums. Marijuana damages your gums because it is inhaled which is also why it damages your respiratory system. The health improvement alone should be enough to decide to stop smoking weed.
Most people are not aware of the damage that is caused to ones skin when smoking weed heavily. When you smoke weed for a long period of time heavily your skin begins to look like that of a cigarette smoker, tough and resembling leather. When you do stop smoking weed your skin begins to look healthier and those bags under your eyes will begin to disappear.
It is also common for weed smokers to become isolated and lose contact with friends and family. Heavy smokers would rather spend their spare time getting high than participating in activities with non smokers. When you stop smoking weed you will notice that you will have more energy and will want to socialize more.
There are also several studies showing the effect it has on male marijuana smokers in particular. Males who smoke weed on a regular basis produce less sperm than those of non smokers. Their sperm is also lazy sperm which is less effective when trying to have a baby.
If you want to stop smoking weed these are great reasons to add to your list. Quiting is possible you don’t need to smoke to be happy, you are hurting yourself. Stop smoking weed now what else do you have to know until you realize what you are doing to yourself?

Hormonal imbalance
It is more common for smokers to get sick more often than non smokers. Those who smoke daily are more likely to suffer from illnesses more often and usually take more time to recover. There are also several studies showing the effect it has on male marijuana smokers in particular. Males who smoke weed on a regular basis produce less sperm than those of non smokers. Their sperm is also lazy sperm which is less effective when trying to have a baby.

Health Effects of Smoking That Every Smoker Should Know
by electropod
Health Effects of Smoking That Every Smoker Should Know
Smoking was once thought to be “cool” and many people, especially the younger generation attempting to emulate the more experienced folks energetically participated and quickly became addicted and vulnerable to the Health Effects Of Smoking, without thinking, and in the case of youth, without the experience and knowledge needed to consider future consequences.
Youth, peer pressure, and sometimes just pure innocence have a way of misleading us at times, but those times are the times that most of us commonly look back on as we progress in Life, experience preventable health risks and say, “If only I could go back and do things differently”.
Armed with modern day information on the health risks of smoking, a lot of current smokers would probably go back to prevent the negative health effects if they could, in any case, they could surely find the incentive to stop smoking from the alarming facts.
Because of the approximately four thousand different chemicals coming from cigarette smoke, many of which are toxic, a person’s organ functions and immune system can be affected if a smoker-smokes for a long time. Occasionally, in minimal cases, a smoker will experience negative affects to the internal organs and immune system after less than a year of smoking.
Chemicals in cigarette smoke affect the Human body in many ways:
The nicotine gets to the brain in just a matter of seconds after inhaling cigarette smoke and is found in all parts of a smoker’s body, including in the breast milk of nursing mothers.
Carbon monoxide binds itself to the red coloring matter of red blood corpuscles called hemoglobin which deliver life giving oxygen to the body’s tissues – hemoglobin also delivers carbon dioxide from body tissues to the lungs.
The much heard of carcinogens cause cancer and damage genes that control cell growth, influencing them to form abnormally or to generate to fast, whereas a carcinogen known as benzopyrene binds itself to smokers’ major organs and airways.
Chemicals from cigarette smoke also induce a physiological reaction called oxidative stress to occur. The oxidative stress causes DNA to mutate and brings about inveterate lung injury. Oxidative stress is also suspected to be behind the aging process which contributes to cancer development and heart disease.
Antioxidants that the body produces help it to repair its damaged cells, but smoking inhibits the production of those antioxidants.
The health effects of smoking that every smoker should know about but apparently does not, impact the body with unnecessary health risks that if known about and understood, would most-likely-cause all smokers to reconsider their asinine choice.

The Effects of Smoking and Drinking on Mental Proficiency

The Effects of Smoking and Drinking on Mental Proficiency
Smoking Can Prime the Brain for Later Addiction
An article entitled “Adolescent Smokers Have A Greater Risk Of Developing Alcohol-use Disorders Than Nonsmokers” by Richard A. Grucza, and Kevin W. Chen revealed research findings that are problematic at best. Perhaps the most disturbing was this: research suggests that smoking “primes” the brain for later addiction to alcohol and perhaps other drugs. When added to the following statistic, this information is very disconcerting: alcohol and smoking, when considered independently or in combination, account for more than 20 percent of the annual fatalities in the United States.
Alcohol-Use Disorders
It is common knowledge that many people started smoking and drinking when they were teenagers. According to research findings, moreover, smokers, especially adolescent smokers, unmistakably have a greater susceptibility to alcohol-use disorders (AUDs) than do non-smokers. Therefore, the earlier a person starts to smoke, the more vulnerable he or she may be to subsequent alcohol abuse, alcoholism, alcohol intoxication, and alcohol withdrawal.
Can Teens Quit Smoking Anytime They Choose?
Approximately 25 years ago I had a job as a child-care worker and worked with emotionally handicapped teens. I remember some of the older patients who were allowed to smoke tell me that they could quit smoking anytime they made up their mind to do so. My response to them, even then, was that this may in fact be true, but the longer they smoke the stronger the habit will become. At some point, moreover, the habit will be so compelling that quitting smoking will be extremely difficult. The point: many teenagers who start smoking see this as “no big deal.” Based on the current research, however, they couldn’t be more incorrect.
A Blueprint for Disease and Devastation
If smoking does in fact “prime” the brain for addiction to alcohol and potentially other drugs later in life, what are the consequences? Basically this: teens who smoke, no matter how “innocent” the intent, may be inadvertently constructing and following a blueprint that leads to the misery, broken relationships, financial ruin, psychological problems, and the physical diseases that are characteristic of long-tern drug and alcohol abuse.
Fifty to Eighty Percent of Alcoholics Smoke
According to another article entitled “Long-term Tobacco Use Associated With Dulled Thinking And Lower IQ, Study Finds,” researchers at the University of Michigan found that both smoking and alcoholism result in diminished thinking ability. The Michigan researchers also discovered that 50 to 80% of alcoholics smoke. If 50 to 80 percent of alcoholics smoke, and both smoking and alcoholism negatively impact the brain’s higher functions, then most alcoholics are doing a double whammy on their mental proficiency. Pardon the pun, but this is a sobering thought, especially when teens and young adults are the ones who are doing the smoking and the drinking.
Conclusion
Let us keep in mind that for all intents and purposes every addict starts out as an occasional user who has made an intentional and conscious decision to involve himself or herself with a specific substance or activity. As time goes by and as the person continues to partake of the substance or activity, however, the person makes a transition from being a voluntary to a compulsive user. As a result, and in conjunction with the findings from the two studies outlined above, people, especially our youth, need to be educated and made aware of the risks and devastation than can result from smoking, alcohol abuse, and alcoholism.

The Positive Effects of the Smoking Ban in England
The Positive Effects of the Smoking Ban in England
<!– @page { margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } –>
Researchers from Bath University have concluded that the smoking ban has resulted in 1,200 fewer heart attack hospital admission in the year following the introduction of the legislation. The study analysed data from the period between July 2002 – September 2008. By studying the five year period prior to the ban, researchers were able to determine annual trends in terms of heart attack hospital admissions, and then apply these past trends to a hypothetical scenario in which the smoking ban had not been introduced. These figures were then compared to actual data compiled throughout the 12 months after the commencement of the ban.
The outcome was that the ban has potentially decreased the number of heart attack patients by 2.4%. The predicted figures can be translated as an £8 million saving for the NHS, and the prevention of circa 180 deaths. Every year approximately 141,000 people in the UK suffer a heart attack, about a third of die before arriving at a hospital. Within the hospital though, the survival rate is 85%, in which case, of a group of 1,200, 180 would not recover.
Although demonstrating obvious association between the smoking ban and the lower number of heart attack admissions in England, the study fails to investigate on a more comprehensive level. It remains impossible to say with any degree of certainty to what extent the ban has had on the overall numbers of heart attack patients, with other factors such as an unhealthy diet, excessive alcohol consumption and a lack of exercise all major causes of cardiac problems. Furthermore, the research does not investigate the smoking status of patients or their experience of passive smoking prior to the ban.
Since 2002 there has been a steady decrease in the number of heart attack hospital admissions, a fact cited by anti-non-smoking campaigners who suggest that the latest figures simply conform to the yearly fall in emergency heart attack admissions. However, this is not an accurate interpretation of the study. As aforementioned, the data was arrived at through a comparison of two scenarios; one in which the ban had not been created, and the other the reality in which we live.
This piece of legislation has clearly gone some way to addressing the health issues associated with smoking. There is however, much more that can be done by individuals. The benefits of not smoking can be felt in one’s health, lifestyle, and finances. By giving up the habit, one is far less likely to suffer from cancer and heart problems, and will find that they save a small fortune not only on the purchase of cigarettes or cigars, but also on financial products such as life insurance, which can be three or four times more expensive for a smoker.
