It’s every couple’s dream to start building a family of their own by having a healthy baby. Pregnancy appears to be a natural expectation from any healthy couple but in a world where lifestyles are always on the go, planning is necessary to make sure that everything goes well.
Being a party animal, getting by on a little sleep, too much alcohol and cigars – all these will have to take a back seat in order to accommodate the beginning of a new life.
Several months prior to conception, both the man and the woman should make sure they are practicing a healthy lifestyle to keep their body in a good condition. This can help minimize risk factors that can hurt the baby or the future parents.
Sometimes, it only takes a healthy lifestyle change to boost the chances of pregnancy especially those who are having problems with infertility and other medical conditions.
The first two to four weeks of pregnancy is very critical. During this time, a tiny placenta and embryo are already attached to the uterine wall. The baby’s development can be greatly affected by the following health and lifestyle issues:
· Serious birth defect called spina bifida is a condition characterized by a baby born with a spine that is not closed. To help prevent this condition, many food items, such as bread, bagels and breakfast cereal, are fortified with folic acid which is effective in reducing the risk of this birth defect.
· Alcohol is associated to premature delivery, mental retardation, birth defects and low-birth-weight babies.
· Smoking can cause conception difficulties and may increase the risk of preterm labor and low birth weight.
· Pregnant women should consult their physicians before taking any over-the-counter and prescription drugs due to the health risk it may cause to the unborn. Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, aspirin compounds and ibuprofen can cause a decrease in the amount of amniotic fluid and cause closure of the ductus arteriosa, an important blood vessel in the baby.
· Cocaine use is detrimental and life-threatening to both mother and baby.
· Pregnant women who have periodontal infections and gum disease can increase the risk of pre-term delivery up to eightfold. Babies born to mothers with these infections are twice as likely to be admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit, and three times more likely to need hospitalization beyond seven days.
According to Michael Greene, MD, Director of Obstetrics at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, obesity is an especially critical issue for women of childbearing age. “Obesity is associated with many complications, because it greatly increases a woman’s risk of developing high blood sugar and diabetes-either before they get pregnant or during their pregnancy,” adds Greene.
The unborn is placed at high risk for a variety of congenital malformations, including defects of the brain and spinal cord brought about by the mother’s obesity and diabetes. The babies are likely to grow large in size making it difficult to have normal delivery and may require ceasarean section.
Depression can also affect pregnancy. Women who get depressed when during pregnancy tend to smoke, drink alcohol or use illegal drugs which are harmful to the baby. Difficulty bonding with the baby and postpartum depression may also occur which is usual in women with a history of depressive illness. The cortisol hormone that the body releases during times of stress seems to make conception more difficult. However, exercise and getting plenty of sleep can help reduce stress.
Women are adviced to see either a doctor or midwife at least 3 months before getting pregnant for pre-conception counseling. This will help women learn about what steps to take to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Keeping a healthy lifestyle over the years can translate into a healthy pregnancy especially when it’s past the prime of fertility years.

Air is our main contact with the environment in which we find ourselves. Every day, we breathe in 15 kg of air; that’s more than our daily food intake. Air, in cities and confined environments where houses are really close together, consists of particles of different sizes charged of chemical pollutants. The finer particles will come into contact with the alveoli and will allow some pollutants go directly into the bloodstream, resulting in diseases. Our environment is directly linked to emergence of diseases. Purifying the air in your house becomes vital. Thanks to new technological methods, it is possible to purify the air you breathe by reducing the number of micro-particles.
Pollution of indoor environments
The environment in developed countries has changed profoundly over the past few decades. The habitats have become tight, insulated and have not allowed the walls to breathe. The urbanization, industrial pollution air pollution and the massive use of chemical pollutants have accentuated the importance of these new diseases created by man. In the United States, the result is appalling. Asthmatics have been numbered in the millions, not counting heart attack, infertility, asthma, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity disease.
Air pollution may increase the risk of heart attack
The fine particles of pollution can cause blood clots, many researchers have discovered. The discovery helps explain how air pollution can cause blood clotting and possibly heart attacks. New medical studies have shown that air pollution from trucks exhaust, buses, cars and certain factories increase the risk of heart disease and fatal heart attacks. Air pollution tends to provoke inflammation of the lungs. Once inflamed by pollution, the lungs secrete interleukin-6, a hormone of defense of the immune system that may aggravate the inflammation and makes it more conducive to blood clotting.
Air pollution can cause infertility, asthma and certain cancers
The more closed a domestic environment is, the more the air is polluted with major pollutants (acids, organic chemicals, metals, gases, and soil or dust particles); it must be purified in a consistent manner. Otherwise, the air is stagnant, full of moisture and becomes a factor conducive to new biological, chemical and organic pollutants. These pollutants can cause respiratory and inflammatory diseases – rhinitis, allergies, asthma, infertility, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, diabetes and certain systemic diseases (diseases that affect a number of organs and tissues, or affect the body as a whole).
Some combined chemicals have an ebullition power at low temperature and evaporate at room temperature. Their sources are from furniture, construction materials (paints, adhesives, flooring) and general maintenance. They are factors of serious diseases. Among them, only formaldehyde can be detected by a search for Immunoglobulin E (IgE). Formaldehyde is a carcinogen chemical compound. It does not affect the breathing capacity but potentiates the effects of other pollutants.
Some other toxic chemical that can be found in the air we breathe at home are glycol ethers. Glycol ethers are toxic for red blood cells, bone marrow and lymph. They can cause infertility in men and women. They are easily transmitted by contact with skin.
What can you do?

Here we shall explore smoking and look to how it fits into the get pregnant tips category. Many experts now agree that a significant number of babies whose Mothers smoked before and/or during pregnancy were born with smaller than normal airways. This could make them more vulnerable to breathing problems after birth. These potential breathing problems could put the baby at increased risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Smoking has been linked to many and various health problems in new born babies, including premature arrival and low birth weight. Mothers who smoke immediately before and during their pregnancy are at an increased risk of having a stillbirth, miscarriage or premature baby. Smoking while pregnant, in particular, will lower the amount of oxygen available to you and your growing baby and increase your baby’s heart rate. These health factors also contribute to raising the SIDS risk for such babies, and in the child’s case decreased ability to breathe adequately or take in enough oxygen for a restful, restorative night’s sleep, which is an essential part of the baby development process.
Babies born to mothers who have smoked immediately before they conceived or during pregnancy are significantly lighter and shorter than those born to Mothers who have not smoked at all. Children who are exposed to tobacco smoke before birth or in the home are far more likely to suffer from a number of respiratory illnesses and infections, which can also contribute to a decrease in quality of life for the baby. The more cigarettes the Mother smokes per day, the greater is the baby’s chances of developing these and other health problems. Studies have shown that a baby’s risk of SIDS rises with each additional smoker in the household, with the number of cigarettes smoked each day, and with the length of exposure to cigarette smoke. This in itself is an alarming fact.
So give your baby and yourself the best possible chance by not smoking before you conceive, during pregnancy and when you return home from hospital. Your baby will thank you for these get pregnant tips and you will sleep better knowing your baby’s risk for SIDS is greatly diminished.

Today, we are going to discuss some of the risk factors of cervical cancer. They are many that it will not be possible for us to exhaust all of them, but let us see how far we can go today.
1) HUMAN PAPILLUM VIRUS INFECTION (HPV): This is the most important of all the risk factors associated to the cancer of the cervix. Doctors believe that before a woman can develop cervical cancer, she must have been infected by HPV. Some types of this HPV are classified as “high risk” because they are the main causes of cervical cancer. These types include HPV 6, HPV 18, HPV 31, HPV 35, and HPV 45 and many other. About two-thirds of all cervical cancers are caused by HPV 16-18.
2) SMOKING: Women who smoke are more likely to get cervical cancer than women who don’t smoke. Smoking exposes the body to many cancer-causing chemicals that affects not only the lungs, but other parts of the body. The lungs will first of all, absorb these harmful substances, and later transfer it into the blood stream throughout the body. The by-products of tobacco have been found in the cervical mucus of women who smoke. These substances damage the DNA of the cervix cells and may equally lead to the development of cervical cancer.
3) IMMUNOSUPPRESSION: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the virus that causes AIDS. This virus damages the immune system of the body completely and makes women to be more at risk for HPV infection. This is one of the causes of increased risk of cervical cancer in women with AIDS. The immune system is very important in destroying cancer cells, and slowing down their growth and spread. A cervical pre-cancer is likely to develop into an invasive cancer faster in women with HIV.
4) CHLAMYDIA INFECTION: This is a very common bacterium that can infect the reproductive system. The spread is mainly through sexual contact. Women whose blood tests show past or present Chlamydia infection are at a higher risk of cervical cancer, as against women with normal test results. This type of infection often shows no symptoms in women. Unless a woman goes for the examination of her pelvic region, she may not know that she is infected of Chlamydia. When this stays long in the body, it leads to pelvic inflammation, which also leads to infertility.
5) DIETS: Diets low in fruits and vegetables can increase the risk of cervical cancer. Also, overweight can equally lead to cervical cancer.
6) BIRTH CONTROL PILLS: The usage of birth control pills for a long time increases the risk of cervical cancer in women. The longer these pills are used, the risk goes up, and goes down after it is stopped.
7) MULTIPLE PREGNANCIES: Women with many full time pregnancies have an increased risk of the cancer of the cervix. This may be because some of these women may have been exposed to unprotected sexual acts which have therefore exposed them to HPV infection. This is because the immune system of the pregnant woman is weak, which allows for HPV infection/ cancer growth.
LOW SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS: Many women with low income don’t have access to adequate health care services, including pap tests, and the implication of this is that they will not be screened or treated for pre-cancerous cervical diseases.
9) FAMILY HISTORY: Cervical cancer runs in some families. If your mother or sister has cervical cancer, your risk of developing this disease is higher. Women from the same family as a patient already diagnosed of cervical cancer may be more likely to have one or more of the other non-genetic risk factors previously described in this section.

Cervical cancer is a type of cancer found in the cervix of women. This cancer can be particularly dangerous, as it generally shows no symptoms in the early onset stages. Due to this factor it is extremely important for women to get yearly pap smears. Most cervical cancer is detected through pap smears. As with any cancer, the earlier the cancer is detected, the better the prognosis for treatment.

If there’s one disease that’s been challenging the practice of medicine for a length of time now, it will definitely be cancer. In an overview, cancer happens when malign cells get to form in an area which affects that way it functions. Though it may seem similar to a petty disease, the effects that come with cancer are drastic. The fact that it can show up in any organ of the body and alter its function makes it more serious to cure.

Another problem that medical experts in this field are facing in the treatment of cancer is that even those that can easily be detected and treated are not being detected, due to the ignorance of the masses on this issue and some are neglected just out of sheer carelessness. A lot of people still believe that cancer is incurable, therefore going to the hospital to seek medical attention is a waste of time and energy and money.

Six Proven Facts About Cancer:
Cancer used to be classified as a disease that is more prevalent to the women folk, due largely the high incidence of breast cancer and other types of cancer that has to do with the sex organ, but there is a reversal of the trend today. More men suffer cancer these days than women. This is due largely to the increase of lung cancer among men. Avoiding all the causes mentioned above will guarantee 100% prevention of cancer, but will greatly reduce it.

Babies: Smoking Significantly Increases Baby’s Sids Risk and Makes for a Restless Night

Babies: Smoking Significantly Increases Baby’s Sids Risk and Makes for a Restless Night
Experts found babies whose mothers smoked during pregnancy were born with smaller airways – making them more vulnerable to breathing problems after birth. These breathing problems can put your baby at increased risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Smoking has been linked to various health problems in babies, including prematurity and low birth weight. Mothers who smoke are at increased risk of having a stillbirth, miscarriage or premature infant. Smoking while pregnant will lower the amount of oxygen available to you and your growing baby and increase your baby’s heart rate. These health factors also contribute to raising the SIDS risk for your infant, and in your childâs decreased ability to breathe correctly or take in enough oxygen for a restful, restorative sleep at night.
Babies born to mothers who smoke are significantly lighter and shorter than those born to non smokers. Children who are exposed to tobacco smoke before birth or in the home are far more likely to suffer from respiratory illnesses and infections, which can also contribute to a decrease in quality of nighttime sleep for your baby.
The more cigarettes you or your babyâs caregiver smoke per day, the greater your baby’s chances of developing these and other health problems. Studies show that a baby’s risk of SIDS rises with each additional smoker in the household, with the number of cigarettes smoked a day, and with the length of exposure to cigarette smoke.
So give your baby and yourself the best chance at a restful nightâs sleep and keep your home and your babyâs sleeping environment smoke-free. Your baby will thank you and youâll sleep better knowing your babyâs risk for SIDS is greatly diminished and that your baby is breathing clean air with each breath he takes at night.
