Reasons why Alcohol Makes You Want To Smoke More

google_language = “en”;

There are a number of reasons why alcohol consumption causes you to want to smoke, some more apparent than others. Read on to find out what all of them are!

First, there’s the obvious one that drinking alcohol lowers your inhibitions and, especially for someone who is trying to quit smoking, makes it harder to resist their temptation to smoke. This is difficult to change because of the way alcohol works with your body, but has its roots in the second reason why drinking makes you want to smoke.

More importantly, though, is that for anybody who has smoked cigarettes for any real period of time (and let’s face it, if you’ve been smoking for two months you aren’t reading this article!) you’ve developed a substantial connection between drinking and smoking. Look outside every bar you can find and you’re guaranteed to find a smattering of cigarette butts lying around there.

Especially as someone who has just started smoking, having one after a few drinks is an excellent feeling. As such, the groundwork is laid for a continuing connection that will become rather difficult to break unless approached correctly. Luckily, that correct approach isn’t really too surprising: you just need to teach your subconscious that smoking and drinking don’t have to be linked, that you can enjoy a few drinks without having to light up a cigarette.

IT sounds weird (and almost like a basis for alcoholism) but practice drinking without smoking, and you’ll notice that over time you’ll become less inclined to smoke when you’re drinking. Just don’t overdo it with the drinks!

It might seem obvious at first, but the underlying reasons behind cutting back on drinking when you quit smoking aren’t what you’d expect. Even more unexpected is the fact that you don’t have to give up drinking to quit smoking, it just needs to be approached carefully.

Like almost everything else in life, things become easier when you know what to expect. The way that your subconscious mind acts on your thoughts isn’t the most predictable of things, yet its effects can have a great impact on your ability to stop smoking, especially after tossing back a few at the bar.

Many people believe that if you give up cigarettes, you have to give up alcohol. These things, while connected in some ways, aren’t inextricably tied together. Granted, the absolute healthiest thing would be to stop both, but that would make me a hypocrite, so we’re just going to avoid that concept. Anyway, the problem with drinking and cigarettes is that you’re so used to them being together. Toss back a few beers, walk outside and light up. You’ve been doing it for so long that it has become a habit, ingrained in your mind and difficult to stop.

Like all habits, however, you can stop it. If you try to run away from it by, say, not drinking for a few weeks and then going back, you’ll likely relapse back into smoking as well. Again, it has to be approached carefully. Quitting smoking is a lifestyle change, just as becoming a smoker was. You aren’t going to become an entirely different person, but you will have to exercise caution for a bit to prevent yourself from falling back on your old habits.

You should cut back on drinking for the first few weeks after stopping tobacco use, however. This gives you time to deal with all the other mental ties that cause you to smoke (more on that at the end of the article). After you are confident that you’ve kicked the habit from your sober life, here’s where it gets interesting. Have a few drinks, and make absolutely sure that you don’t smoke.

After a few drinks (especially after a few dry weeks) your inhibitions will be significantly lowered. Just like with the ugly chick at the bar, your subconscious will try to take over, telling you such things as “Oh, you haven’t smoked for weeks, it’s time to reward yourself!” Don’t fall for this, because this is the point at which you will be able to break your habit. Remember how embarrassing it was when you woke up with the three-hundred-pounder from the bar? Same rules apply here. Keep in mind what you’re working for, and you’ll have your first smoke-free night of drinking.

Will it be difficult? The first few times, it definitely won’t be easy. As with all habits that you break, it gets easier with repetition. Before long, you’ll be able to enjoy a few beers without even thinking about cigarettes, because your mind will no longer connect the two.

On Saturday morning you might assume the identity of a soccer coach. In fact, you change identities every time you do something different or new.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective’s review

This is an excellent self-improvement book. Unlike other self-help guides I’ve read, this book is to improve the internal characteristics of a person, rather than giving a list of things to do to improve their effectiveness in certain limited situations. In other words, instead of saying how you can change your image through certain techniques, describes how to change your character so real that you’re naturally a good public image of only the positive traits that built in you.

Recipe for Women: Breaking Through Your Fear

In my post on 2-25-10 I shared the hidden role fear plays in our willingness to influence and persuade. When women accept that fear is in our imagination – we can deal with it. This was the first way to stamp out the fear we subconsciously carry with us. But there’s another way to conquer the fear that stops our influencing power. And that is to understand our relationship to fear. I am a huge believer in the power of relationships – from our cells to our outward expressions with people.

Alcohol Consumption When Stopping Smoking (How Drinking Makes Quitting Even Harder)

Babies: Smoking Significantly Increases Baby’s Sids Risk and Makes for a Restless Night

Babies: Smoking Significantly Increases Baby’s Sids Risk and Makes for a Restless Night

Experts found babies whose mothers smoked during pregnancy were born with smaller airways – making them more vulnerable to breathing problems after birth.  These breathing problems can put your baby at increased risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Smoking has been linked to various health problems in babies, including prematurity and low birth weight. Mothers who smoke are at increased risk of having a stillbirth, miscarriage or premature infant. Smoking while pregnant will lower the amount of oxygen available to you and your growing baby and increase your baby’s heart rate. These health factors also contribute to raising the SIDS risk for your infant, and in your child’s decreased ability to breathe correctly or take in enough oxygen for a restful, restorative sleep at night.

Babies born to mothers who smoke are significantly lighter and shorter than those born to non smokers. Children who are exposed to tobacco smoke before birth or in the home are far more likely to suffer from respiratory illnesses and infections, which can also contribute to a decrease in quality of nighttime sleep for your baby.

The more cigarettes you or your baby’s caregiver smoke per day, the greater your baby’s chances of developing these and other health problems.  Studies show that a baby’s risk of SIDS rises with each additional smoker in the household, with the number of cigarettes smoked a day, and with the length of exposure to cigarette smoke.

So give your baby and yourself the best chance at a restful night’s sleep and keep your home and your baby’s sleeping environment smoke-free.  Your baby will thank you and you’ll sleep better knowing your baby’s risk for SIDS is greatly diminished and that your baby is breathing clean air with each breath he takes at night.
