Himalayan salt crystal lamps are used for centuries for their reputed health benefits, however do they work? According to several health consultants, salt rock lamps provide a myriad of health benefits.
THE SCIENCE
From a scientific perspective, this can be how salt crystal lamps work.
The atomic structure of crystal salt is certain electrically, not molecularly, and this permits the salt crystal to change back and forth from a crystalline to a liquid state.
The warmth of the bulb in the salt crystal lamp creates the next surface temperature than the surrounding air within the room. This attracts water molecules in the cooler surrounding air, ensuing in condensation on the surface of the rock crystal. This method allows the electrically bound sodium chloride mineral to separate into independent (positive) sodium and (negative) chloride ions.
Once the water molecules evaporate, the sodium and chloride ions revert to their crystalline mineral form. This natural ionization method takes place over and over again, invisible to the attention, and does not have an effect on the standard of the salt crystal.
When lit by a little lightweight bulb of fifteen watt or less, a rock crystal salt lamp emits an electrical charge that releases healthy negative ions into the air. These negative ions kill bacteria, molds, mildews and spores, odors, cigarette smoke, chemical gases, pet odors, pollens, mud and mud mites, animal dander, viruses, static electricity, carbon monoxide, and abundant more.
NEGATIVE IONS
In nature, negative ions are created through forces of rain storms, waterfalls, lightening, sunlight, ocean waves and winds. In fresh country air, we have a tendency to find up to four,000 negative ions per cubic centimeter (the dimensions of a sugar cube).Up to ten,000 negative ions are found near heavy surf, or close to a waterfall. That’s why we tend to feel thus refreshed and energized when we are close to these environments.
By distinction, the number of negative ions in metropolitan areas often will not even reach a hundred!
Our homes are terribly usually the source of the many health risks. For instance, many pollutants found within the air reside attach themselves to floating mud particles. During a take a look at conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, they found 53% less dust, and ninety five% less bacteria, in the air by ionizing the room.
Smart Housekeeping Magazine, in March 1999, had its engineers check an ionizer by using a smoke test, and found that it cleared out the smoke in a very tank.
THE HEALTH BENEFITS
Health practitioners in Europe, North America, Australia and Japan have been using salt crystal lamps extensively in their treatments for ailments like snoring, allergies, sinus issues, to reduce asthma attacks, respiratory problems and to enhance the immune system.
Our homes are filled with volatile organic compounds that may seriously affect our health. For instance, a fifteen-year study concluded that girls who make money working from home have a fifty four% higher death rate from cancer than those who work far from home. This was a right away results of the increased exposure to toxic chemicals, many of that are found in common household products. Negative ions can help mitigate these volatile organic compounds.
The Enviromental Protection Agency within the U.S. ranks indoor air pollution together of the top five threats to public health. It should come back as no surprise then that many hospitals in Europe create ionization mandatory.
Yes, Himalayan salt crystal lamps do work. They’re a terribly attractive feature in any house, terribly safe, and will be employed in every room in your home. For optimal results, your salt crystal lamp ought to be left on as a lot of as possible.

Although they may seem like a new innovation, air purifiers have been around for more than 200 years. Beginning as protective masks for fireman, air purifiers have now evolved the ability to protect you and your family from airborne pollutants.

As allergies and asthma now affect more than 50 million Americans, the concern for safe indoor air quality has rapidly increased. Now more than ever, Americans are looking for ways to improve their indoor air quality. Air purifiers lead the pack in advancements for cleaner air.

Allergens like smoke, mold spores, pollen, bacteria, viruses, pet dander, and other pollutants damage your lungs and immune system. Unfortunately, most of these irritants cannot be seen by the naked eye. Air purifiers filter allergens and pollutants seen or unseen by the human eye. To remove these objects, air purifiers typically use filters, electrical attraction, or ozone.

Air filters utilize fine sieves that filter particles from circulating air. As air flows into the air purifier, the finer the sieve used, the smaller the particles it traps. The accepted benchmark for air filters has been set by the High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters, which are guaranteed to trap 99.97% of airborne particles larger than 0.3 microns. Microns are the standard unit used for measuring air particles. Each micron is equivalent to 1/25,400 of an inch. The naked eye cannot see anything this small, so pollutants like bacteria and viruses escape detection. Room air conditioner filters only capture particles 10 microns or larger. HEPA filters remove smaller allergens like dust, smoke, chemicals, asbestos, pollen, and pet dander.

The more times the air passes through the HEPA filter, the cleaner the air becomes. The room capacity of a HEPA air purifier will determine whether the air cleaner can handle your air purifying needs. Top-of-the-line brands like Austin Air purifiers will provide approximately 15 air exchanges per hour in an average room and contain an average of 15 lbs of activated carbon/zeolite blends, which adsorb chemicals and odors.

In addition to the HEPA filter, brands like AllerAir and IQAir offer an optional medical grade ultra-violet (UV) light system, used to quickly kill viruses, bacteria, and fungi upon entry into the air purifier. UV light also protects the HEPA filter from biological and viral contamination.

Electrical attraction is another technology utilized by air purifiers to trap particles. Three types of air cleaners work using electrical attraction: electrostatic precipitating cleaners, electret filters, and negative ion generators.

Electrostatic precipitating cleaners, or electronic air purifiers, draw particles in by fan and charge them with a series of high-voltage wires. Several plates (precipitating cells) carry the opposite electrical charge and attract the contaminants as they pass by the plates. Electronic air purifiers are perfect for individuals who don’t want to worry about the costly replacements of HEPA filters. Friedrich electrostatic air purifiers remove approximately 95% of all airborne particles and carry low energy costs for you.

Electret filters in air purifiers use synthetic fibers that create static charges to attract particles. Electret filters are offered in a variety of types including plain, pleated, disposable or reusable. Depending on the type of filter you need, will determine how often the filter requires replacement.

Some brands like Blueair combine the HEPA technology with their own electrostatic media filter technology, which charges the incoming particles instead of the filter. By marrying the two unique purification systems together, Blueair created a more effective air cleaner.

Negative ion generators or ionic air purifiers use tiny, charged wires or needles to create gas molecules with negative charges or ions that adhere to the airborne particles and collect in the filter. However, many ions end up back in the air, sticking to furnishings and other surfaces that may be stained by them.

Ionic air purifiers only remove certain types of particles and aren’t always effective against gases, chemicals, or odors. Some ionic air purifiers have been shown to re-circulate the same dirty particles that they draw in, making them much less effective than traditional air purifiers using HEPA filtration.

Instead of using filters to trap particles, ozone generators use high voltage electrical currents to convert oxygen to ozone, which acts as a powerful oxidant and breaks down molecules and microorganisms in the air. Several tests have proved that ozone generators are not very effective at removing indoor allergens.

Ozone, in fact, can be hazardous to your health, and both ozone generators and ionic air cleaners emit ozone. In nature, lightning creates ozone when it cuts through oxygen molecules in the air. In the atmosphere, ozone helps protect us from harmful UV rays; however, on the ground level, ozone is a powerful lung irritant. When created artificially, ozone can actually aggravate allergies and asthma, damaging the lining of nasal passages and lungs, causing coughing, throat irritation, chest pain, and shortness of breath. The Environmental Protection Agency and the American Lung Association advise against using ozone generators.

Asbestos and radon are growing problems in homes today. Heating devices produce carbon monoxide and other dangerous gases, and chemicals like formaldehyde and ammonia are increasing in the home environment. Since most Americans stay indoors an average of 90% of the time, providing fresher and cleaner air has never been more important.

Finding an environment-friendly solution has become much easier. Learn about air purification today. The right air purifier will provide asthma and allergy sufferers with air free of airborne pollutants and establish healthy indoor air quality for you and your family.

If you are like most smokers, you may have tried to quit smoking without the use of stop smoking aids only to realize that your addiction to nicotine was much stronger that you had anticipated. If you need help battling your physical smoking addiction while you learn to replace the destructive habit of smoking with more health promoting behaviors, there are numerous treatments available that cost no more than the price you’re paying to smoke!

It is imperative that you understand before beginning treatment to help you stop smoking that medication only tends to half the problem of tobacco addiction. If you are not taking measures to find more appropriate habits with which to occupy your time when you quit smoking, you may be at high risk for relapse. Smoking cessation products are meant to provide you temporary relief from the withdrawal symptoms your body experiences when you claim your freedom from tobacco.

Nicotine Gum

Nicotine gum has been around for years. It is one of the original stop smoking aids that has successfully helped hundreds of thousands of smokers quit smoking. Gum is sometimes misunderstood as a result of failure to read user instructions. Nicotine gum is not like regular chewing gum, and it is not intended to be chewed on as such. Conversely, it is a medicinal supply of nicotine administered by holding a partially chewed piece between your gum and cheek.

Long term use of nicotine gum has been known to lead to mouth sores and other dental complications. As such, it should be used sparingly and temporarily. Other possible side effects include dizziness, hiccups and heartburn.

Lozenge

The nicotine lozenge has been around for a few years and it quite similar to gum. The main difference is that it is sucked on instead of chewed. Again, however, proper placement is on the side of your mouth. Both short-term side effects and possibility of long-term oral damage are the same as gum.

Nicotine Patch

The nicotine patch is a method of administering a regular flow of nicotine to your body through the use of a transdermal patch placed on your skin. It is strongly recommended to apply the nicotine patch in the morning and remove it before bedtime. Some of the most common side effects of the patch are: Mild to severe skin irritation, itching, dizziness

Natural Stop Smoking Spray

Natural stop smoking spray is a smoke deter that is used to combat the physical withdrawals and symptoms of irritability caused by stop smoking. This is one of the most effective stop smoking aids, as there are a wealth of benefits and no reported side effects.

Smokeless Cigarettes

Smokeless cigarettes are also referred to as e-cigarettes, and they are a simulation of a cigarette through which nicotine is delivered via an electronic apparatus. Common side effects are: Dizziness, hiccups, heartburn, increased dependence on e-cig, and long-term side effects are not yet known as there has not been sufficient time to study.

Each stop smoking aid works in its own way to curb the physical withdrawal symptoms your body experiences when you quit smoking. It is strongly suggested to combine stop smoking aids with a behavior modification plan that will help you stop smoking now and forever.

The electronic cigarette is a real alternative to traditional cigarettes for smokers.  This clever Chinese invention was developed and patented in 2004 by a company called Ruyan.  The inventor was looking for a smoking alternative for his father who had lung cancer, and came up with this great product which is now a worldwide phenomenon.

The e cigarette consists of a small lithium battery which powers an atomiser to produce vapour from a small refill cartridge that is enclosed inside the cigarette.  The e cigarette looks and feels very much like a real cigarette and the vapour produced when the smoker inhales gives the sensation of smoking (including the much required throat hit) that smokers crave.  The refill cartridges are filled with an e liquid that contains propylene glycol (dry ice), nicotine, colourings and flavourings but none of the harmful chemicals associated with traditional cigarettes.  And of course, there is no tar.

There are many alternatives to smoking on the market today; everything from patches to nicotine gum.  However, every alternative works on the basis that nicotine replacement is all that the smoker needs to be able to stop smoking.  The truth is that this is not the case.

For example, smoking is a very social thing.  Many smokers get pleasure out of smoking when drinking, or after a meal.  The electronic cigarette can be used as an exact replacement for this and will not offend people around the smoker with the smell and effects of passive smoke.  The smoker doesn’t feel as if they are missing out on, what is to them, a pleasurable experience.  The fact that electronic cigarettes can be smoked legally anywhere makes them very popular with people who enjoy social smoking.

There is also the physical crutch of having a cigarette in your mouth and drawing on the cigarette and exhaling the smoke.  The e cigarette gives a very life-like alternative to this.  Whilst the electronic cigarette still delivers the nicotine craved by the smoker, it also fulfils the other physical actions and cravings associated with smoking.

The other thing that a smoker misses by using other alternatives is the throat hit.  The e cigarette gives this hit much in the same way that real smoke does.

A smoker can also regulate their nicotine intake using the electronic cigarette.  Refill cartridges are available in High, Medium, Low and Zero nicotine strengths.  This gives the smoker the option of smoking with lower nicotine levels but with all of the physical benefits of using an electronic cigarette.  Many e cig customers use Zero nicotine strength refills so that they still have the physical feel of a cigarette without any nicotine intake at all.

Can electronic cigarettes help you quit smoking?

Can electronic cigarettes help you quit smoking? In all probability. However, the merchants who offer these systems aren’t in a position to tell you that. Thanks to the FDA not having officially sanctioned electronic cigarettes, they cannot generally be sold as smoking cessation products, but rather only as a more healthful “smoking alternative” for folks who wish to smoke in public places.

My Quitting Smoking Story & How It Can Work For You

My Quitting Smoking Story & How It Can Work For You

I have been smoking since the age of 15, that was 14 years ago, from around the age of 19 I have been trying to quit the 20 a day habit. I can tell you now that I have tried pretty much every method of a way to quit smoking, the longest I have ever gone without a cigarette is 7 months.  But since starting on the electronic cigarette I don’t have the need to quit, sounds ironic I know but it is doing no harm to me so I can at least enjoy them.  For more information on them visit Smoking Electronic Cigarettes.

Here is a list of what Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) or method I have tried and the approx length of time I quit with them:

1. Gum – Used to take these quite a lot on different occasions and with other NRT such as patches. Quit smoking for around a month on these alone.

2. Lozenges – Did not quit smoking at all on these.

3. Patches – Have spent hundreds of pounds on these and have used well over £1000 of tax payers money getting these from quit smoking clinics. One year I managed to finish the 12 week course (without a single cigarette) and stayed nicotine free for another 4 months. Have to say though, every so often I thought of a cigarette and soon went back, thought I did a good job of quitting smoking though.

4. Inhaler – Just over a month I quit with these, I remember the doctor giving me these along side a course of full strength patches, which did not seem logical to me, my nicotine levels were up to my eye balls but in the end I still reached for that cigarette, and it made me feel very ill. Still I did not quit smoking though.

5. Hypnotherapy – This is one of the best methods I have tried, I booked myself to see someone on New Years Eve, as that was the only time I could, and afterwards I felt no different, all I kept thinking about was if I needed a cigarette? I ended up going out for the evening and I did not feel like a cigarette, even after a couple of drinks, ok maybe a few… I went through the night not wanting a cigarette at all. But 3 months went by and I ended up thinking of smoking again. One drag was all it took. Back on it full time. Have tried hypnotherapy twice since then and had no effect on me at all.

6. Books – I read the Allen Carr’s Easy Way To Quit Smoking, I was quite amazed with this book as I did actually quit smoking after finishing the book, but only for 3 months. I still give the guy (who sadly passed away) credit for writing this really good book. In the end I though I still did not quit smoking.

7. Clinics – This is the clinic version of the Easy Way to Quit Smoking, I paid £120 for their time, managed to quit smoking for a measly 3 days. Went to a couple more free sessions to give it another go, sadly did not work for me.

8. Audio Hypnotherapy – Lost count the amount of times I went to bed listening to these to actually think I will wake up a non smoker.

9. Pills – I recommend not to take these, Champex and Zyban. These have severe side effects which vary from mild headaches to even having fits. Basically all these do is switch your nicotine receptor cells in your brain OFF, so you do not feel like a cigarette, but as soon as you stop taking them your receptor cells are back online. Did not quit smoking on these as I stopped taking them after a week from sleep deprivation and constant cold sweats.

10. Cold turkey – I lasted the same amount of time it took me to get to shops to buy a pack of smokes or to politely ask someone at work.

So there you have it that is approximately 10 years of my life trying to quit smoking, sounds very sad when I actually think about it. I find myself strong willed but somewhere deep inside me I really do actually enjoy smoking, otherwise I would not go back.

This is where the electronic cigarette has actually given me complete freedom, I no longer have the feeling and pressure of trying to quit smoking. A doctor once told me that the nicotine receptor cells in your brain are there forever, 20 years can go by and if I had 1 drag of a cigarette I would be hooked again. After 10 years of constant pressure on myself of quitting I can safely say that all I will be smoking from now on is the electronic cigarette. It gives me the exact sensation of smoking tobacco i.e. blowing smoke (vapour) and when I am out socialising I can still smoke with other smokers. It did feel strange at first and slightly embarrassing but has been a great conversation starter as not many people have even seen or heard of these devices. I will be sticking to these for a very long time.
