The holistic benefit Yoga offers your quit smoking mission is immense – not to mention the wealth of benefits you gain to your health in countless other ways. There are many resources for Yoga online and even through your cable or satellite provider! For now, though, here are a few common stretches that will get your blood flowing and start your body in a positive direction toward a holistic recovery from smoking cigarettes to feed your nicotine addiction.

Downward Facing Dog

Downward facing dog is the most basic position in Yoga. It is one of the most common starting positions, and it acts as a maneuvering position between a lot of other stretches and exercises. To perform a downward dog pose, you will start with your legs about shoulder width apart. Lean forward, bending at the waist and bending slightly at the knees if necessary. If this is the first time you are doing this pose, you may only be able to touch your fingertips to the floor while stretching time up outward, elongating your back. Try not to perform a type of dangling stretch in which you touch your toes, as this is quite different. Instead, imagine you are making a triangle with your body and the floor. A long-term goal is to be able to have your palms flat on the ground and your heals touching down completely. Breath deep and hold the pose for 15-30 seconds then begin to crawl forward for…

Low Cobra

From downward facing dog, bring your upper body closer to the floor, lowering the rest of your body in succession like a snake – not quite to the floor, though, just parallel to it. When your body is fully extended, the only parts touching the ground should be your flat palms and your toes. Your body should be strait and close to the floor; your hand should be directly underneath your shoulders and your arms bent. Keeping your low to the ground pose, raise your head and gaze forward as you hold and breath. After 15-30 seconds, and push up to go into… 

High Cobra

As you straiten out your arms and arch your back, drop your torso to the ground, extend your toes outward, and square your shoulders back as you take a deep breath. Take advantage of this deep stretch, pushing steadily down on your palms. Hold for 15-30 seconds then shift your weight to your knees, dragging your hands in front of you.

You could sit on your knees with your buttock cradled by your feet for a few moments of silent meditation or you could extend your arms out in front of you in a similar seated position but with your forehead to the floor. This is known as child’s pose. Sit quietly for a few moments, concentrating heavily on your breath.

During this time of meditation, try to visualize your disease as something very manageable like a box containing all the lies of your addiction: You need to smoke, you can’t afford to feel that way, you need a release from stress through nicotine, etc. Visualize your self defeating thoughts all becoming scrolls and being placed one by one in the box where they will be sealed away – far from you and no longer associated with your way of thinking.

There many more holistic methods to stop smoking and recover from other ailments, as well, that can’t possibly be covered in one article. If you are toying with the idea of replacing your addiction with a holistic approach to not only quit smoking, but to life in general, just think about all the attention and valuable time you wasted on keeping your nicotine addiction alive. As a long time smoker (and now happy ex-smoker), I had tried virtually every quit smoking method under the sun. Incidentally, the way how I quit smoking for good wasn’t any of the mainstream methods, but one far more obscure and, strangely, little talked about.

I’d tried nicotine patches and gums, which seemed to work for a little while, but their effectiveness decreased over time…and I would always find myself smoking again.

I tried some pill for a few weeks, but it didn’t really stop me from smoking. I think after I stopped using it, I was even worse than before I’d started with it.

Ultimately, a friend recommended this book on quitting smoking, which he said made almost everyone who read it quit. It didn’t rely on any sort of fanciness, just a gradual process of making you, the smoker, understand why you’re addicted to smoking, and why it’s actually quite easy to quit.

Naturally, I didn’t believe him, but I gave it a shot anyway. Lo and behold, the silly thing worked. I found myself without any cravings for cigarettes whatsoever. Even better, I didn’t feel any of the awful withdrawal that I’d gone through in the past. Several days later, I went to a party where several of my friends were smoking, and I didn’t feel the urge to join them, instead feeling bad for them and how they remained addicted to cigarettes while I had quit.

Books on quitting smoking are actually quite effective, and can be a fool-proof way to quit smoking for good!

QUIT SMOKING – STOP SMOKING FOR GOOD

While most people are determined to know exactly how many times it takes to really quit. Getting a firm grasp on the number of tries that it will take is important. You might be confused as to what this information can actually do for you. It actually serves the purpose of setting you up to be confident as you approach the date when you need to quit smoking. It is almost always necessary to obtain some form of help when you are trying to quit smoking in order to be successful. This is the primary reason why it typically takes a minimum of two tries to quit smoking. No matter how many attempts you may try, it is best to plan to quit for good anytime you attempt to stop smoking.

 

Being aware of how difficult it really is to quit smoking is quite significant. If you are aware of the challenges you will be in a much better position because you will have the ability to create a plan to help you quit. Knowing the challenges that you face will also allow you to create a plan that is suitable based upon the precise reason that you smoke. For example, if you tend to smoke due to stress you should be aware of what causes you stress out and look for ways to avoid the stress.

 

If you have a plan created to help you quit smoking before your first attempt even begins you may find that you are able to quit after a single attempt. Not having a plan before you even attempt to quit will increase the chances that it takes several tries to be successful. Creating a plan to help you stop smoking is not impossible, it merely means you need to be able to identify the problems that you could experience in your attempt to quit smoking. This means if you simply sit down and create a plan to help you deter temptations and also avoid potential problems you will have a much better success rate.

 

Merely deciding to stop smoking at a whim will generally result in a series of problems. It is very important to take your time creating your plan so that you can successfully quit. Taking advantage of these small details in the plan that you create can go a very long way towards ensuring that you are ultimately successful. Just be certain that all of the small details of your plan are well organized. This means you really need to keep your confidence up, feeling as if you will not be successful can leave you creating a lot of problems. Avoiding problems is very important to ensure that you are able to quit with as few attempts as possible.

Smoking cigarettes accounts for between 40% and 60% of the difference in men and women’s mortality right across Europe, new research reveals. Alcohol accounts for around 20% of the gender gap. The findings, published in the journal Tobacco Control, highlight the need for public health measures to tackle these harmful behaviors. Women have outlived men in some European countries since the middle of the 18th century, and since the late 1990s, there has been evidence that women in every country in the world can expect to live longer than their male compatriots.

The reasons for this difference have been hotly debated; some attribute the gender gap to biology, while others point to men’s (relative) unwillingness to seek out medical care when they need it. One area which has been largely neglected is the influence of health behaviors on the gender gap in death rates. In this study, scientists in the UK used World Health Organization (WHO) data on death rates in 30 European countries from the year 2005. They studied differences between the genders in deaths from all causes as well as deaths from smoking-related conditions and alcohol-related deaths.

The results revealed that although the death rates from all causes were higher for men than for women in all countries studied, the scale of the gender gap varied widely, from 188 (per 100,000 of the population per year) ‘excess’ deaths among men in Iceland to 942 in Ukraine. Generally speaking, the gender gap was higher in Eastern Europe; all countries with a gender gap over 400 per 100,000 were in this region.

The lowest gender gaps were found in Cyprus, Greece, Iceland, Sweden and the UK, which all recorded gaps of under 230 per 100,000. Smoking accounted for between 38% and 60% of the gender gap in all countries, with the exception of Malta, where smoking was behind 74% of the excess deaths. According to the researchers, variations in the proportion of excess deaths due to smoking tobacco can be attributed to gender differences in the uptake of smoking in different countries in earlier decades. Meanwhile alcohol-related deaths accounted for between 20% and 30% of the gender gap in Eastern Europe and between 10% and 20% elsewhere. However, in all 30 countries studied, the contribution of smoking to the gender gap in all-cause mortality was greater than that of alcohol.

The scientists point out that it should not come as a surprise that smoking and drinking are such significant drivers of the gender gap in life expectancy, as these behaviors ‘have long been a powerful way of portraying gendered identities’. Furthermore, the researchers note, ‘it has been suggested that cultural portrayals of drinking keep shifting to maintain a gendered distinction in drinking behaviors, so that as men and women both modify their drinking behaviors, considerable effort is devoted to constructing men’s drinking in different ways to women’s drinking.’

The fact that young smokers continue to take up smoking and engage in harmful patterns of alcohol consumption suggests that public health measures are urgently needed to tackle these behaviors. The fact that these behaviors appear to be linked to gender identities means that dealing with them will not be easy. ‘These behaviors are culturally bound and these cultural constructions of behaviors are partially shaped by and exploited by the alcohol and tobacco industries,’ the researchers warn. Looking to the future, the team predicts that the gender gap due to smoking will dwindle in the coming decades. They concluded that it may still be several decades before profound changes in gender differences in smoking in some of these countries are reflected in a smaller contribution of smoking-related deaths to a reduced gender gap in mortality.

“Do you have any plan of quitting cigarette smoking?”  I asked my friend.

“Plan?  I’ll stop and that’s it!” she replied.

“Like the last time huh?” I don’t intend to be sarcastic but it’s been always that way!

Honestly that’s how my friend Sally is, she always make on the spot decision which makes her a lively person but when it comes to smoking, it was the 3rd attempt she made, and this time I asked her if she have any methods on how to quit smoking before it becomes another failing plan and makes smokers cough worst.

Expectedly, she doesn’t have any methods or goal.  She blamed her two last attempts to her anxiety and stress and did not take responsibility of her actions.  According to her, at this point she is willing to make a plan and stop her unhealthy habit for good.

What is your preparation method to quit?

If you do not have any, then you can be like Sally who failed twice just because of no proper planning and not even invested for the success of her plan to stop smoking for good.  It is your health and your family’s health that is in line at this issue!

Ways on how to stop smoking do not have to be a novel; there are just some basic things to remember that may help. Methods of how to quit smoking for good health are broken down into three sections below:

Goals – jot down realistic goals with exact time frame.  It can be the exact date on when you will start your quitting goal or maybe how sticks you will subtract everyday.  Any will do as long as it is documented and is with you all the time.

How to avoid longings – Many have a hard time to avoid their longings to cigarettes caused by nicotine addiction that developed after long years of smoking.  It is a must to create an action plan once it strikes you, it requires of you to divert yourself from something affirmative.  Cleaning your home or your office space, or maybe think of a tennis game (something repetitive is soothing), or anything except smoking.

Reasons – An important principle to work out is to change your attitude from that of a smoker to a non – smoker.  In order to make this possible you will need a strong reason why quitting cigarette is best for you.  It will make things a little easier if you list down the benefits you will get from quitting, extra money, good health, better family relationship, all at any kind as long as it motivates you!

Sally was able to pull it through with these tips at hand, it wasn’t easy though.  What helped her most is the decision to submit herself to hypnosis course which worked for her since she believed in the power of it.
